SOME
OF THE COMMENTS:
"The
lights are a very poor display and I feel embarrassed
that we have asked a TV personality to come and switch
a few meagre lights on. Is this the best that the organisers
of the Christmas lights can do? Surely it would be better
to spend less on a soap star and let the money saved go
on providing a more colourful and may be a moving display
of lights."
"I
think Christmas is for children so I think lights should
be attractive to them. I personally would rather say to
my 2 year old grandson look at the penguin, or rudolph,
or santa, than look at the stars all in a row - one of
the reasons I took him to Milton Keynes not Kettering!
Some people's houses around Kettering are more interesting
to my grandson than Kettering town. Some years back we
had a Santa and some real reindeer come to the town and
I would much rather have that sort of thing for the children
than an actor from the TV. By having a 'celebrity' a word
you would probably use and I wouldn't, you merely encourage
a lot of teenagers to come into the town who then run
around and annoy most of the shoppers. While you continue
to spend your money on actors I shall continue to take
my money to other towns. My Christmas present money is
probably worth £500 to £600 to the shops."
"Every
year we have the same old boring lights, I work in Silver
street and the lights in this street are disgusting (if
you can find them!). They ask the shops if they will help
with the costs, which is an insult considering they use
the same lights every year. Instead of getting stars to
turn on the lights they should use the money towards better
decorations. I have shopped in many places at this time
of year and kettering has to be the worse for decorations,
even small towns like B/Latimar make more of an effort.
Sorry for being such a moaning minny but i'm just being
honest."
"They
are pathetic compared to other towns, our lights have always
been a let down! Why don't our carnival queen of the year
or someone of importance to our town turn on the lights!"
"bring
back the lights that went from lamppost to lampost...please"
THANKS
TO EVERYONE WHO TOOK PART IN THE POLL.
